Not only did he achieve iconic status with the Chargers, but Gates also has strong ties to Detroit, Michigan, where he grew up. This means he will have the opportunity to watch his former team, the Chargers, compete against his hometown team, the Lions. Gates is widely regarded as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. His career statistics underscore his exceptional talent and impact on the game.
