Los Angeles Chargers Given Realistic Trade Proposal To Acquire Jalen Ramsey

All trades in the NFL are possible. The one thing that needs to be found is common ground. Right now, the Los Angeles Chargers are in need of a cornerback after losing Kristian Fulton in free agency, and Asante Samuel’s injury seems to be more serious than previously thought. The Miami Dolphins are reportedly open to trading CB Jalen Ramsey. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Ramsey and the Dolphins will “mutually explore trade options.”

There is the requisite common ground…

Given Ramsey’s age (30) and his performance in the 2024 season, teams interested in acquiring him would likely need to offer a mid-round draft pick. In 2024, Ramsey recorded 11 pass breakups and two interceptions, while allowing an 83.2 passer rating in coverage.

Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti notes the financial aspects of a potential trade, stating that the acquiring team would take on a $21.1 million contract for the upcoming year, with a more flexible structure in the subsequent three years. “The acquiring team would essentially be taking on a 1-year, $21.1M contract, with the remaining three years [set up] as a pay-as-you-go structure,” Ginnitti wrote.

With these factors in mind, several teams could be potential landing spots for Ramsey. Here’s a look at one trade scenario offered up by Moe Moton of Bleacher Report

Los Angeles Chargers

  • Los Angeles Chargers Get: CB Jalen Ramsey
  • Miami Dolphins Get: 2025 3rd-round pick (No. 86 overall)

The Los Angeles Chargers, coming off an 11-6 season, are in a “win-now” mode and possess the cap space ($29.8 million) to accommodate Ramsey’s contract.

The Chargers allowed Kristian Fulton to depart in free agency and have not re-signed Asante Samuel Jr. While they added Donte Jackson and saw promising play from Tarheeb Still in his rookie year, they could use another starting-caliber cornerback.

Acquiring Ramsey would provide the Chargers with a versatile defensive back. Both Ramsey and Still can play in the slot, offering defensive coordinator Jesse Minter the flexibility to present opposing quarterbacks with diverse coverage schemes. Ramsey also brings experience at safety, adding depth alongside All-Pro/Pro Bowl safety Derwin James Jr.

The addition of Ramsey would further strengthen the Chargers’ defense, which was the league’s No. 1 scoring unit last year, and improve their chances of competing with the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.
