Mike Williams, a year after his departure, has returned to the Los Angeles Chargers, determined to recapture the form that endeared him to fans during his two 1,000-yard seasons with the franchise. His 2024 season, split between the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers, was notably challenging. When asked at his introductory press conference if he felt he had something to prove, Williams candidly responded, “Well, yeah, I feel like it, because last year was terrible for me, for sure.”
Los Angeles Chargers WR: “Probably the worst year I’ve had in the league by far”

While Williams refrained from criticizing his former teams and emphasized his positive relationship with Aaron Rodgers, despite a past incident involving a costly interception, he openly acknowledged the difficulties he faced.
“I’m just being honest. It was terrible,” Williams said. “Probably the worst year I’ve had in the league by far. So, yeah, I’m just putting it in the past. That was the past. Trying to make it feel like it didn’t happen for me. But, yeah, just getting back to what I’m used to doing and having fun, that’s my main thing. This is where it all started and I’m excited to be back.”
Remarkably, Williams played in 18 regular-season games last year, a feat made possible by the timing of his trade. However, he described his ACL rehabilitation as particularly challenging, as he missed the familiar medical staff he had worked with at the Chargers. He expressed his relief at returning to the team. “Never wanted to leave, on my side, but it’s the business part of football, and things happen,” Williams said. “But now I’m back, and happy to be back.”
