The Los Angeles Chargers have secured a significant defensive asset, reaching a one-year, $18 million agreement with outside linebacker Khalil Mack, as reported by Adam Schefter. This deal, fully guaranteed, represents a crucial retention for the team, who faced the potential loss of both starting edge rushers following the release of Joey Bosa last week.

Mack, a 33-year-old former first-round draft pick by the Raiders in 2014, has had a notable NFL career. After completing his initial four-year contract with the Raiders, they exercised his fifth-year option. Subsequently, the Raiders traded Mack to the Chicago Bears in a deal involving two first-round draft picks. Mack then signed a six-year, $141 million extension with Chicago, which included $90 million in guaranteed money. In 2022, after four seasons with the Bears, Mack was traded to Los Angeles for draft compensation.

During the 2024 season, Mack appeared in 16 games for the Bolts, starting all of them. He recorded 39 tackles, six sacks, a fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, and nine pass defenses, demonstrating his continued importance to the team’s defensive performance.
