Los Angeles Chargers Add To Secondary With Latest Free Agent Signing

The Los Angeles Chargers have had a relatively quiet free agency period thus far in the sense that they haven’t signed any big-name free agents, however, they have been able to fill out some key positions of need with under-the-radar signings.

One such signing just occurred with former Washington Commanders CB Benjamin St-Juste.

Per his agent, Mike McCartney, St-Juste gets a one-year deal to join the Chargers.

A native of Montreal, Canada, St-Juste played college ball at Michigan and Minnesota before being drafted in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders in 2021. Ironically, he made his NFL debut against the Chargers in the season opener. In that game, he recorded four tackles but also allowed six catches in a 20-16 loss.

St-Juste has dealt with injuries over his four-year career in Washington, but last season, he played in 17 games, and it was his best statistically as well. He finished with 71 total tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 7 passes defensed.

St-Juste played slot cornerback early in his career but is best suited as an outside cornerback. Last season, he played just 28 snaps from the slot while amassing 751 snaps out wide.

The Chargers signed Donte Jackson (outside corner) earlier this week and saw the emergence of Tarheeb Still on the outside last season, so it will be interesting to see where St-Juste fits in exactly. What we do know is that the Chargers were crushed with injuries in the secondary last season, so having good depth is never a bad thing.

The amount of the one-year deal has not been released yet, but we will update this once it is disclosed.
