The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly weighing the possibility of trading wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, a decision that could be expedited by their recent acquisition of Demarcus Robinson.

A deal was in place last season to send Aiyuk to the Browns for Amari Cooper, second- and fifth-round draft picks, NBC Sports Bay Area reported at the time. The 49ers had already agreed in principle to other trades, too.

To manage their financial situation, the 49ers have already made strategic moves, including trading Deebo Samuel and releasing several veteran players. Now, with Aiyuk’s potential departure, the team may be preparing for further roster adjustments to maintain long-term financial stability.

The Chargers’ persistent need for a premier wide receiver ensures their continued presence in all WR trade discussions. While second-round pick Ladd McConkey has shown considerable promise, it’s unrealistic to expect him to shoulder the entire burden of the passing attack. Recognizing this, head coach Jim Harbaugh and the team have reportedly explored avenues to strengthen their receiving corps, having previously pursued trades for established talents like D.K. Metcalf and Diontae Johnson. Given their ongoing efforts, a potential trade with the San Francisco 49ers for Aiyuk could provide the team with the much-needed offensive boost they seek.
