With the free agent market dwindling, the Los Angeles Chargers are exploring options to bolster their offense. Following a disappointing 2024 season, the team is actively pursuing talent to improve their 2025 performance. One potential addition is free agent tight end Tyler Conklin, who recently visited the Chargers, as reported by Mike Garafolo on X.
Los Angeles Chargers Meeting With TE Tyler Conklin

“The Chargers are hosting veteran TE Tyler Conklin on a visit, sources say,” Garafolo wrote. “A bit of a surprise he’s still available, especially since a few teams have shown interest in signing him, including the Jets, with whom he had 170 catches for 1,622 yards and 7 TDs the last three years.”
Conklin, while not a household name like Brock Bowers or George Kittle, has demonstrated consistent production over the past three seasons with the New York Jets: 2022: 16 starts, 58 receptions, 552 yards, 3 TDs; 2023: 12 starts, 61 receptions, 621 yards, 0 TDs; 2024: 15 starts, 51 receptions, 449 yards, 4 TDs. Given his recent scoring output, it is somewhat surprising that he remains unsigned.
However, the subdued tight-end market in free agency provides context. The Denver Broncos’ signing of Evan Engram, a two-year, $23 million deal with $16.5 million guaranteed, was among the more notable tight end contracts, yet it didn’t generate significant buzz. This lack of activity suggests Conklin’s situation may be attributed to a generally slow offseason for tight ends.
The demand for offensive guards has been significantly higher, highlighting the disparity in the market. As an average-level tight end, Conklin hasn’t attracted as much interest. His age, approaching 30, may also be a factor. Nevertheless, his four-touchdown performance in 2024 makes him an appealing option for teams like the Chargers seeking to strengthen their tight end position.
