The Los Angeles Chargers have to give Justin Herbert more weapons this offseason. Whether it be through free agency, the NFL Draft, or a blockbuster trade, the room needs more talent.
It seems like just about every pending free agent receiver has been linked to the Chargers, but ESPN Insider Aaron Schatz proposed a different direction for the team to go.
In his 2025 NFL Predictions, Schatz suggested the idea of the Bolts trading for All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill.
Los Angeles Chargers Predicted To Trade For Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill is a name that has been rumored to be on the move since his polarizing end-of-season media session where he insinuated that his time in Miami was done. However, he is under contract until 2029 and would carry a large dead cap hit, so a trade would really be the only way to attain him.

In his article, Schatz loved the idea of pairing Hill with Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
“Hill seems to have made nice with the Dolphins, but he’s still a trade candidate and he fits perfectly with the Chargers. Los Angeles is clearly in need of a No. 1 wide receiver who can stretch the field, and it has the quarterback who can get the ball to that type of receiver…Hill running deep routes would open up room for Ladd McConkey to work underneath and allow Joshua Palmer (pending free agent) or Quentin Johnston to play a much more realistic WR3 role.”

In what felt like a down year (it was by his standards), Hill still nearly crossed 1,000 yards receiving and did it with a carousel of QBs.
The Chargers have been lacking a true dominant deep threat pretty much since they drafted Herbert. They have had players attempt to fill the role, but none as the WR1.

The question would be how much compensation the Dolphins would want. Because Hill is 30 years old and carries a cap hit of nearly $28 million this season, it may cost less compensation than you might expect.
A couple of late-round picks might get it done, and then I am sure that GM Joe Hortiz will want to get a new contract worked out.
