Los Angeles Chargers Linked to Newly Available 2x Pro Bowl Receiver

We already saw the Los Angeles Chargers remake their receiving corps last offseason, shedding the expensive contracts of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. This resulted in Ladd McConkey, the 34th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, becoming Justin Herbert’s leading receiver.

Yet, there’s still more work to be done in Los Angeles, and the Chargers could find another receiver upgrade on the open market.

The Los Angeles Chargers enter the offseason boasting over $60 million in salary cap space, which means they’ll have more than enough money to target any free agent receiver they desire. Yet, another way they could use that cap space is by trading for a prized star who’s in line to receive a big contract.

That line of thinking would line them up to trade for Seattle Seahawks’ two-time Pro Bowl receiver DK Metcalf, who just requested a trade on Wednesday.

According to Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chargers expressed a strong amount of trade interest last offseason, even when he wasn’t available. Now that he is on the trade block, the Chargers are viewed as a likely candidate to pursue a trade for the 27-year-old wideout again.

“Sources: DK Metcalf is expected to draw interest from multiple teams, but dating back to last offseason, the Chargers were the one team that quietly but aggressively pursued him in trade talks—only to be rebuffed by Seattle. The Chargers remain in the receiver market this offseason.”

Schultz isn’t the only NFL insider linking the Chargers to a Metcalf trade. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones is hearing similar thoughts.

Metcalf has never had fewer than 900 yards in his six NFL seasons. A three-time 1,000-yard receiver, the 6-foot-4 Metcalf would be a sizable upgrade in Los Angeles.
