New WR Trade Idea Emerges For Los Angeles Chargers For Big Fast Pass Catcher

The Los Angeles Chargers are exploring avenues to bolster their wide receiver corps ahead of the upcoming draft. While free agency remains an option, including a potential reunion with Keenan Allen, the team is also considering a trade to acquire a young, cost-effective receiver. The Indianapolis Colts’ Alec Pierce, a 2022 second-round pick, has emerged as a potential target.

Pierce, entering the final year of his contract, has shown promise but hasn’t fully realized his potential. With Michael Pittman, Josh Downs, and Adonai Mitchell already on the roster, the Colts might be open to trading Pierce for additional draft capital. Travis Wakeman of The Sporting News suggested LA should pursue the Colts receiver.

The potential trade proposal involves the Chargers acquiring Alec Pierce in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick (No. 158). While the Colts might seek a higher return, this offer is considered reasonable. Los Angeles, with 10 picks in the upcoming draft, have the flexibility to make such a move without significantly impacting their overall draft strategy.

The Chargers’ current wide receiver situation presents some uncertainty. Ladd McConkey is their top option, but questions remain regarding Quentin Johnston’s development and Mike Williams’s future performance. Adding Pierce would provide much-needed depth and talent. Pierce, who will be 25 in May, has accumulated 110 receptions for 1,931 yards and 11 touchdowns in three seasons. Notably, he excels at catching deep passes.

Pierce led the NFL last season with 22.4 yards per reception, demonstrating his ability to stretch the field. This deep-threat capability is precisely what the Chargers lacked last season. Acquiring Pierce for a day-three draft pick would be a shrewd move, offering LA an established player in his prime, a more reliable option than a late-round draft gamble.
