We are 12 days away from the Los Angeles Chargers being on the clock for the 2025 NFL Draft. While they did not make a “splash” signing, the Bolts were busy in free agency and will most likely stand pat with their roster until the Draft.
However, with roughly $30 million still in Cap Space, according to OverTheCap, the Chargers could certainly make a few acquisitions after the draft and after the UDFA class is signed.
Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports floated the idea of Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh signing former first-round pick and four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb.
Los Angeles Chargers Linked To RB Nick Chubb

Surprisingly, Nick Chubb is still a free agent. Sitting at 30 years old, he is on the tail end of his career, so finding the right fit and circumstance will be key for Chubb.
There is still a viable shot that he re-signs in Cleveland, but with their quarterback issues, he could be looking for a contender that gives him a better shot to win a Super Bowl.
The Chargers could be that fit.
Could Nick Chubb be headed to L.A.?

Per Palacios, “For the Chargers, the ground game will look dramatically different, similar to their defense. The Chargers are testing the waters again after signing Najee Harris to a one-year deal. Gus Edwards didn’t work out in Los Angeles, so they need to find a capable replacement for him. Since the Chargers are experimenting, the team could roll the dice on Chubb for a year as well to see how he could fit into their offensive scheme.”
- Nick Chubb 2024 Stats: 8 games, 102 carries, 332 yards, 3 touchdowns
After Harris on the depth chart are Hassan Haskins, Kimani Vidal, and Jaret Patterson. While Chubb is not what he once was, he doesn’t have to be. A 1-2 punch of Harris and Chubb could actually become a fairly potent running back tandem.
A lot will depend on if the Bolts decide to take an RB in the Draft. They currently have 10 draft selections, so I would fully expect one of those to be a running back, but if not, or if it is a late-round RB, Chubb could still be in play.
After four straight Pro Bowl seasons and 1000+ rushing yards each year, Chubb has battled injuries the last two campaigns and only played in 10 total games. He comes with injury risk but would be cheap because of that and could give the Chargers a solid home run threat in their run-first offense.
Thoughts, Bolt Fam?
