Los Angeles Chargers Land Key Role Player In Latest Trade Proposal

The Los Angeles Chargers are in desperate need to add a wide receiver. Based on their actions, it appears that they are comfortable with the room they currently have heading into the NFL Draft.

However, this doesn’t mean they should not explore all possible options, including potential trades.

Ladd McConkey had a breakout rookie season and is poised the lead the group moving forward. Some think the Chargers need to add a WR1, but McConkey is fine for that role. They truly need a WR2.

Quentin Johnston could become that, but heading into Year 3, he has not proven that he can do it consistently.

They did bring back Mike Williams, but at this point in his career, he is a very suitable role player but not someone that Justin Herbert and the offense should expect to lean on.

So, who are some viable options out there?

Travis Wakeman of Sporting News threw out a trade proposal that is actually really interesting.

Wakeman suggests that the Chargers could deal a 2025 5th-rounder to the Indiapolis Colts for wide receiver Alec Peirce.

“The team needs more options at the position and Pierce still has plenty of upside and will be only 25 years old in May. In three seasons with the Colts, he has caught 110 passes for 1,931 yards and 11 touchdowns, but there is one area where he continually excels…catching the deep ball.

That helped him lead the NFL last season with 22.4 yards per reception, nearly a full yard more than the player at No. 2 (Christian Watson),” writes Wakeman.

The Bolts need a receiver that can truly stretch the field to take advantage of Justin Herbert’s elite arm talent.

The Chargers currently have 10 draft picks, so sending a Day 3 pick for a proven player makes a ton of sense. Just last year, Pierce finished with 37 receptions, 824 yards, and 7 touchdowns, with sub-optimal quarterback play in Indianapolis.

It really feels like Joe Hortiz is content just to roll into the draft and take a wide receiver that way, which they will have plenty of options, but draft picks are never guaranteed to be successful. Will they work the phones over the next few weeks?

Thoughts, Bolt Fam?
