Los Angeles Chargers Hoping to Sign Pro Bowl RB With Four 1,000-Yard Seasons

NFL free agency is officially underway and while several stars have already agreed to contracts with new teams, the Los Angeles Chargers haven’t made a major splash. However, that could soon be changing.

The latest Chargers free agency rumors indicate they’re monitoring the market of one of the best running backs available. But they’re not alone.

We know Jim Harbaugh loves a physical approach to playing football. That’s evident by seeing how he and Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz have prioritized strengthening the Los Angeles Chargers’ trenches.

But what about a smashmouth rushing attack?

According to ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Chargers are a team to watch to sign Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris. The one-time Pro Bowl running back has recorded at least 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first four seasons since arriving as the 24th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport takes things one step further, confirming the team’s interest while saying that the Chargers “hope to close a deal” with Harris.

Harris has reportedly already begun saying his goodbyes to his fellow Steelers teammates, so he’s apparently prepared to receive a better offer. It’s just a matter of who offers what.

The Steelers have had an inconsistent offensive line and lackluster quarterback production, so there’s a belief that the former first-round pick still has a higher ceiling that could be reached and coach Harbaugh may be the perfect one to help the 27-year-old reach it.
