Los Angeles Chargers Trade Rumors Persist Despite New Addition

The Los Angeles Chargers are being encouraged to explore a trade for the Philadelphia Eagles’ tight end Dallas Goedert, potentially adding a significant upgrade to their offense before the 2025 season. Despite recently signing free agent Tyler Conklin and with promising tight end prospects available in the upcoming draft, a trade for Goedert is seen as a strategic move.

Los Angeles Chargers Trade Rumors Urged To Chase Another Tight End

Ian Valentino of The 33rd Team proposes a trade scenario where the Chargers acquire Goedert in exchange for their fifth-round (No. 158) and sixth-round (No. 209) picks. This deal would allow the Chargers to maintain seven total draft picks, while significantly enhancing their tight end position.

“The Los Angeles Chargers have nine picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, and there’s no way they should plan on making all of them. Nine rookies will not make this final roster. Instead of taking on future practice squad options, moving several Day 3 picks to get a big short-term boost at tight end is the way to go,” Valentino argues.

Valentino highlights the Eagles’ apparent desire to offload Goedert’s $11.8 million cap hit, given his age and recent injury history.

“It’s been clear Philadelphia is looking to shed Dallas Goedert’s $11.8 million cap hit this offseason as they manage their Super Bowl-winning roster. Goedert just turned 30 and has missed 15 games in the last three years. The Eagles can’t justify paying that much for an oft-injured player at this point.”

The Chargers, with ample cap space and a win-now mentality under Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert, are seen as ideal trade partners.

“The Chargers can take that risk, though. They have the third-most cap space in the league and a win-now mindset with Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert. Pairing Goedert with Will Dissly makes the offense more diverse and dynamic without hamstringing their ability to invest in the draft. Philadelphia would need to re-work Goedert’s contract since they’d incur $21 million in dead cap in a trade, but Howie Roseman is an ace at navigating these tough situations,” Valentino explains.

The Eagles would likely find this trade appealing, as it would alleviate the financial burden of an aging player. For the Chargers, it addresses a position of need, as their current tight end depth is limited to Conklin and Will Dissly. The Chargers could acquire Goedert and still draft a tight end for long-term development.

Goedert, a 2018 second-round pick, has spent seven seasons with the Eagles, accumulating 349 career catches for 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns. He would provide Justin Herbert with a valuable red zone target. This trade scenario has been previously discussed, and the Eagles may be receptive to offers that shed Goedert’s salary. The Chargers’ willingness to part with day three draft picks could secure a seasoned veteran and solidify their tight end position.
