Los Angeles Chargers Should Consider Newly Available Joey Bosa Replacement

The Los Angeles Chargers offseason has left their defensive line in tatters. They lost Poona Ford and Joey Bosa and didn’t do much to replace either.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, the Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly in an under-the-radar rebuild with all pieces up for consideration, including Travon Walker.

An NFL executive has told Jacksonville Jaguars On SI, “There is a lot of interest around the league in Jaguars’ Travon Walker, should the Jaguars choose to move on. For a rebuilding team, the offers may be so high that they couldn’t refuse it. They don’t want to move him, but when you are rebuilding you have to look at every option.”

Jim Harbaugh, known for his preference for a physical defensive style, faces a challenge in maintaining that identity for the Los Angeles Chargers. While the team has made significant offensive strides, the departure of Poona Ford leaves a notable void in their defensive line.

Although Teair Tart remains, his effectiveness could be diminished without additional support. To address this, the Chargers might look to bolster their defensive front with a player like Walker, whose size and physicality align with Harbaugh’s vision. Given the Chargers’ available financial resources, Walker could represent a valuable upgrade and at just 24, still has many years ahead of him, which can’t be said about Khalil Mack.

Over his three NFL seasons, Walker has demonstrated consistent productivity, accumulating 24 sacks, 28 tackles for loss, and 162 total tackles. He has also shown a knack for creating turnovers, with three forced fumbles and an interception. Notably, he has recorded ten or more sacks in each of the past two seasons, highlighting his ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks.

Despite these impressive statistics, the Jacksonville Jaguars have yet to extend Walker’s contract. He is currently playing under the four-year rookie deal he signed upon entering the league, which includes a club option for the 2026 season. If the Jaguars do not exercise their option, or come to a new agreement before then, Walker will become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
