After a slow start to free agency, the Los Angeles Chargers added a nice piece yesterday in offensive guard Mekhi Becton. Now, with the offensive line improved, the Bolts have to address the offensive skill positions to give Justin Herbert more weapons.
They brought back Mike Williams to add a vertical threat to the receiver room, but they still need more. A high-profile tight end would be a welcomed addition, as right now, Will Dissly is the leader in the room.
The 33rd Team just released their latest mock draft. They had both elite tight ends, Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland, going before the Chargers selection, so LA drafted a wide receiver with the 22nd Pick.
Los Angeles Chargers Select Texas Wide Receiver Matthew Golden
James Foster, NFL Analyst for The 33rd Team, has the LA Chargers selecting Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden.
Per Foster:
“The Chargers’ lack of talent at receiver, aside from Ladd McConkey, puts a hard cap on their offensive potential, so they take Matthew Golden. Golden broke out over the second half of the 2024 season after taking over as the primary target in Texas’ passing game. He’s an efficient route runner with excellent fluidity and quickness to separate from man coverage. His speed seemed average on tape, but he ran a 4.29 at the combine.”
- Matthew Golden 2024 Stats: 58 receptions, 987 yards, 9 touchdowns
Perhaps most impressive was Golden’s 17-yard average per reception. He would bring a field-stretching element to the Los Angeles Chargers offense, which would pair nicely with McConkey, Williams, and Quentin Johnston.
Jalen Reagor and Derius Davis have the speed and ability to do this, but they have not proven able to do it consistently yet, so adding the best receiver available would make a lot of sense.
Thoughts, Bolt Fam?
