Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator, Jesse Minter, was asked after Wednesday’s minicamp practice about the progression of the secondary. Fifth-round rookie defensive back Tarheeb Still was one of the first players he singled out.

“Tarheeb is probably, in the last three or four practices, made a really really good jump that that you expect a guy to make after being able to digest five or six practices. [I’m] really happy with the jump that he’s made. He made a bunch of really nice plays out there the last couple days.”
The secondary is the Chargers’ main area of concern according to defensive guru Cody Alexander. So getting immediate contributions from draft picks will be crucial to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
Still was selected in 137 overall in the 2024 draft from the Maryland Terrapins. During his senior season, he racked up 45 tackles, two pass breakups, and five interceptions in 10 games.
The 6-foot, 189-pounder was one of two defensive backs selected by the Chargers in 2024. The other is Cam Hart. Minter also spoke on him as well at the press conference but limited it to Hart’s quintessential size based on how they want to play. Hart’s height, arm length, and wingspan all put him in the top 10 percentile of cornerbacks.
Still lacks those measurables, but it sounds like he has been impressive in other ways. Still played both outside and in the slot in college. Most draftniks thought he would be a slot-only player based on his size and lack of arm length.
The Chargers will likely start Ja’Sir Taylor at slot corner this year.
