The likelihood of the Los Angeles Rams drafting a quarterback seems to be growing as the NFL Draft quickly approaches. The team has reportedly met with at least two prospects, Jaxson Dart and Jalen Milroe.
The hope is, of course, that the Rams will strike gold with a Dak Prescott- or Brock Purdy-like late-round draft pick who is a diamond in the rough just waiting for the right environment to flourish. While it is a long shot, the team must start the process of replacing Matthew Stafford, and drafting a quarterback is the team’s best shot at doing so this year.
Draft Expert Picks Puka Nacua QB For Los Angeles Rams
ESPN’s Ben Solak made his pitch for the new front man of the Sean McVay offense in his recent article.
“A potential right tackle of the future should join the team somewhere in the late Day 2/early Day 3 range, as should a potential quarterback of the future — even after the Rams and Matthew Stafford came to terms this offseason,” Solak writes. “He’s still 37, and there’s no exciting young quarterback on the Rams’ roster behind him. Kyle McCord (Syracuse) has the right play style to pair with Puka Nacua (read: he will throw anything, no matter how covered the guy is).”

Kyle McCord Scouting Report

HT 6′3″ | WT 218 | AGE 22.60 | Draft Grade: 3rd-4th Round
McCord demonstrates timing, touch, and poise as a passer, consistently delivering the ball to his receivers in advantageous positions. While his release quickness is not exceptional, and he needs to refine his eye discipline to better influence defensive schemes, his aggressive approach, though occasionally leading to negative outcomes, was a significant factor in his collegiate success. In 2024, McCord’s passing prowess contributed to Syracuse achieving double-digit wins, only the third time in the program’s history.
Overall, McCord’s physical attributes are adequate, and his limited mobility restricts his options outside the pocket. However, he exhibits composure and possesses the anticipation and conviction of a proficient pocket passer, enabling him to execute plays effectively when afforded protection and surrounded by capable talent. He projects as a backup option in the NFL, but he could develop into a starter in an optimal system.
