Sean McVay has been around the block more than a few times in the NFL. The coach was hired in 2017 and is getting ready to head into his ninth season. Since then, he’s piled up more than a few accolades.
Super Bowl champion, NFC West champion, and NFC champion are only a few of the awards he has brought home over the years. In that time, despite not quite getting over the hump since Super Bowl LVI, Sean McVay has solidified himself in the eyes of the sometimes brutal national zeitgeist. Not only that, but he has thrived, at least in the eyes of one NFL podcast legend.
“Heed The Call” Host Dan Hanzus Speaks Out On Los Angeles Rams Coach

Speaking exclusively to LAFB, “Around the NFL” and “Heed the Call” podcast host Dan Hanzus put Sean McVay in the upper echelon of coaches in the NFL. Hanzus was originally asked what the Rams should do in the offseason but Hanzus went out of his way to tip his cap.
“That offense will get back to being a top-five offense since he’s one of the dudes. There are only a few coaches that truly make a difference and McVay is one of them. So start building and keep Stafford in the building obviously. I think that’s their number one priority,” he said.
Of course, he did go on to name the coaches he viewed ahead of McVay. Nonetheless, it was a ringing endorsement that far from all head coaches get from a podcaster who covers them all.

In 2025, McVay will be tasked with helping to get the offense back out of the mid-league production (15th in yards per game, per ESPN analytics) and up with a team like the Baltimore Ravens, but being one of the best doesn’t make things easier on every front.
Sean McVay’s Pedigree Brings Fresh Challenges
As one of the elite in the NFL, it can be tempting to assume that McVay can mask any hole or deficiency on the team. However, for any NFL team to trump every other one, it is important to give McVay the weapons to maximize his potential.
In other words, the Rams need to be careful to avoid settling for less this offseason. As Matthew Stafford weighs his place with the Rams, it is important to get McVay the best option, not something for him to fix. That is, assuming the team is hoping to return to its 2021 heights.
That said, at some point, Sean McVay will need to take “less than” and turn it into “more than.” Based on Hanzus’ faith, he should have no problems.
