Cooper Kupp’s tenure with the Los Angeles Rams was marked by exceptional achievements, most notably his historic 2021 season, capped by a Super Bowl MVP award. However, when it came time for his departure, the Rams offered neither special nor even typical consideration.
“It’s been difficult,” Kupp shared during his introductory press conference with the Seahawks. “In all honesty, it’s been very difficult and frustrating and there’s been lots of questions. It’s a real tough situation. I’ve said, I’ve always imagined that I’d finish my career there, but that’s not what the plan was that God had for me and my family.”
Los Angeles Rams Gave Little Explanation For Cooper Kupp Ouster
When questioned about whether the Rams provided an explanation for their decision, Kupp responded, “I’m sure they have their reasons for why they want to do things, whatever it is. Not a ton of clarity in that regard.”

This situation highlights the often-brutal realities of professional football, where players are essentially components in a machine, subject to replacement.
While some players have the luxury of leaving on their own terms, most are replaced by the team, often with less expensive alternatives. In Kupp’s case, the Rams chose to replace him with Davante Adams, an older and more expensive player, indicating their belief that Kupp was no longer suitable as a No. 2 receiver.
Furthermore, there appeared to be no interest in accommodating him as a No. 3 option. The Rams likely understood that Kupp’s market value, reflected in his Seahawks contract, was that of a No. 2 receiver.
Despite the circumstances, it appears that the Rams did not provide Kupp with a clear explanation for their decision. This raises questions about the level of respect and sensitivity that players can expect, especially considering Kupp’s status as a Super Bowl MVP.
