Nearly every knowledgeable NFL draft analyst points to cornerback as the Los Angeles Rams biggest need heading into the big day in Green Bay. While they have done a good job patching the secondary, the team lacks any real long-term solutions at the corner.
Many options will likely fall to the late first round, where the Rams are picking, but none are clear day one starters. This puts the team in a bit of a pickle. They can trade up for one of the top three options or trade back into the second round to add picks to supplement the position.
Could Greg Newsome II Be The Los Angeles Rams’ Long-Term Answer At CB?

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, another option has hit the market as the Cleveland Browns are looking to sell.
“Two Browns players believed to be available via trade entering the draft, per sources: CB Greg Newsome and DE Ogbo Okoronkwo,” Schultz wrote on X. “Okoronkwo has recorded 7.5 sacks over the past two seasons, while Newsome — a former first-round pick — is entering the final year of his deal.”
Newsome II has been the subject of recurring trade speculation. Heading into the final year of his rookie contract, Newsome’s name has surfaced in trade discussions, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently labeling him as a player who could be “deemed expendable” around the draft.
Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports has also highlighted Newsome as a potential trade candidate for the Browns.A trade involving Newsome could offer the Browns financial flexibility, potentially freeing up $13 million in cap space, while also providing value in return for a player whose long-term future in Cleveland may be uncertain.
“He’s getting $13.3 million on his fifth-year option this year, and suffered through a difficult 2024 season, so moving him might not be easy. He had hamstring surgery last July, then struggled and lost his job early in the season, only to end up missing the last four games when the hamstring flared up again,” Vacchiano said. “Still, he’s a 24-year-old former first-round pick who had three decent NFL seasons. He doesn’t have a future in Cleveland, but cornerbacks are hard to find, so someone might be willing to take a chance.”
