Los Angeles Rams HC Singles Out Young QB, “Really Scary”

The Los Angeles Rams are currently in a franchise-defining predicament- attempting to find their next quarterback, whether they take a swing in the draft this season or hope that one falls in their lap, like it did just four years ago with Matthew Stafford. But one QB has already caught the eye of Rams head coach Sean McVay. Unfortunately, this one is already on an NFL team.

Speaking with ESPN’s John Keim at the annual NFL owners’ meeting in March, McVay articulated his positive observations of Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. “The way he was playing the position, it sure looks sustainable,” McVay remarked, suggesting a belief in the longevity and consistency of Daniels’ early success.

McVay further elaborated on the intangible qualities that stood out. “He has that swagger, that confidence, that enjoyment with competing … the smile, the ability to be totally immersed in the moment. That’s one of the things I loved about watching him. I don’t see that changing. … He’s going to be really scary for a long time,” McVay thoughtfully added, highlighting Daniels’ demeanor and mental approach to the game as key indicators of future success.

Daniels concluded his remarkable rookie campaign earning Rookie of the Year honors and by etching his name into the NFL’s record books across several key statistical categories. He finished the regular season with the most rushing yards (891), the highest points per game (28.5), and the highest completion percentage (69%) ever recorded by a rookie quarterback in league history, as noted by various sources.

Furthermore, Daniels demonstrated a clutch ability in late-game situations, setting a new rookie record with 12 touchdown passes thrown in the fourth quarter or overtime throughout the season. Notably, five of these game-altering touchdowns occurred within the final 30 seconds of regulation or in overtime, a feat unmatched by any player in the NFL since 1970.

Fortunately for McVay and the Los Angeles Rams, their schedule for the 2025 season does not include a matchup against Daniels and the Commanders. The two teams nearly met in the NFC Championship game, but the Rams missed out on the opportunity after falling to the Philadelphia Eagles the week prior.
