Los Angeles Rams Went To Great Lengths To Attract Big Free Agent Score

The Los Angeles Rams significantly bolstered their receiving corps on Sunday, securing a deal with star wide receiver Davante Adams. Sean McVay, the head coach, revealed that the acquisition required some determined, long-distance recruiting efforts. Adams reportedly agreed to a two-year, $46 million contract with the team, featuring $26 million in guaranteed money.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported that the deal was finalized while Adams was in Japan. McVay confirmed that he actively recruited Adams, making phone calls to Japan to convey his vision. These efforts ultimately proved successful, as Adams was convinced that Los Angeles was the ideal destination for him.

“He’s been recruiting Davante Adams, who is in Japan, so the time difference has made things a little bit difficult with regard to getting him,” Garafolo said. “He said he’s been recruiting him hard, been trying to get him there. He finally got it done. He’s so jacked.”

It’s easy to see why Sean McVay pursued Adams with such determination. LA is clearly focused on contending for another Super Bowl title in 2025, a goal underscored by their decision to restructure Matthew Stafford’s contract. With Puka Nacua already established as an elite number-one receiver, the Rams’ offense is poised for significant improvement. Cooper Kupp’s earlier revelation that they intend to move forward without him further emphasizes the strategic nature of Adams’ acquisition, effectively making Kupp more expendable.

Despite entering his age 33 season, Adams continues to perform at an elite level. Last season, he accumulated 1,063 receiving yards and eight touchdowns while splitting time between the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Jets. His consistent production is evident in his record of surpassing 1,000 receiving yards in six of the last seven seasons, solidifying his status as one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers.
