Los Angeles Rams DB Could Fetch Big Return In Trade Market

As the Los Angeles Rams prepare for the upcoming NFL season, General Manager Les Snead and the front office are focused on refining their roster. Trade options are a valuable tool for teams in the Rams’ position, and Pro Football Focus’ Bradley Locker suggests that safety Kam Curl is their most tradeable asset.

“The Rams can’t afford to trot out the exact same personnel from a secondary that ranked 19th in PFF coverage grade in 2024,” Locker wrote. “With other burgeoning options at safety, some of the team’s veterans could be on the trade block.” He further noted, “In his first season with the Rams, Curl registered a 63.7 PFF coverage grade and a 68.5 PFF run-defense grade. Yet, his PFF overall grade (68.4) trailed rookie (71.5). It will be tough to keep Kinchens off the field in 2025, and Curl has just one year left on his contract.”

However, despite Curl’s potential trade value, the Rams should strongly consider retaining him. Curl excels in run defense and attacking the line of scrimmage, complementing Kinchens’ coverage skills. Curl’s 2024 season was a resurgence after a difficult end to his time with the Commanders and defensive coordinator Chris Shula clearly valued his diverse skill set.

Trading Curl would create a depth issue in the safety room, and the potential trade compensation likely wouldn’t outweigh his on-field contributions or the compensatory value the team might receive. Curl’s impactful plays last season, including his role in Shula’s redesigned Hail Mary defense, his blitzing ability, and his reliable tackling, highlight his importance. In a league where rotation and player health are paramount, LA should prioritize keeping Curl on their roster.
