Los Angeles Rams “Special” Coach To Have Big Influence On 2025 Game Plan

The Los Angeles Rams’ retention of offensive assistant Nathan Scheelhaase this offseason, despite significant interest from other teams seeking to hire him as their offensive coordinator, is viewed as a major victory by head coach Sean McVay.

McVay has promoted Scheelhaase to passing game coordinator and, on Monday, emphasized his belief that Scheelhaase should be integrated into every facet of the offense. “He’s a stud,” McVay stated. “He’ll be involved in all parts of the game plan.”

McVay praised Scheelhaase’s exceptional ability to fulfill all coaching responsibilities, both within and beyond his formal job description. “The great ones redefine what that is because they do a little bit more and they’re just a little more intrinsically motivated and they’ve got just a little bit better feel on how you deal with people,” McVay explained. “I think this guy’s a special coach and I’m not going to take for granted the time I have with him. I thought it was cool that he chose to say with us with some other opportunities he had. That meant a lot to me. He is a rising star, without a doubt.”

Scheelhaase, 34, a former quarterback at Illinois, transitioned to assistant coaching roles at Illinois and Iowa State before joining the Rams a year ago. He is widely considered a future NFL offensive coordinator or head coach, and McVay is actively contributing to his professional development.
