The Los Angeles Rams went into the 2025 NFL Draft with cornerback as their biggest roster need. After six picks through seven rounds, cornerback remains their biggest need. The Rams didn’t invest one draft pick at the position.
The team opted to trade back to the second round, then with that pick went for a tight end in the second round. By the second round, the top-rated corners had come off the board. The Rams went for the best player available, an edge rusher — hardly a position of need. This means they have drafted just one cornerback over the last three drafts — Tre Tomlinson was selected in 2023 and is now a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
The Rams now have a precarious proposition heading into the 2025 season. They have two aging outside corners, the 32-year-old Darious Williams and the quickly aging Ahkello Witherspoon, on a one-year contract. At nickel corner, they have converted safety Quentin Lake. Lake, Cobie Durant, and Derion Kendrick are all in their final year of their rookie contract.
Jalen Ramsey Emerges As The Best Answer For The Los Angeles Rams

All that said, Jalen Ramsey has officially and mutually been on the trade market for much of the last two weeks.
“He’s a great player,” Sean McVay said, via The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue. “We know him very well … we know him intimately. You would certainly never rule out the possibility of that. … There’s a lot of layers that would need to be worked out with a player of his magnitude, and some of the different things that accompany that. But you would never eliminate the possibility of adding a total stud.”
Does this all but guarantee that Ramsey will reunite with the team he helped win a Super Bowl? No. But it is one good answer to their biggest question after the draft.
Despite being the only player over 30 on this list, Ramsey demonstrated in 2024 that he remains a highly effective and impactful player. He recorded his fourth season with over 1,000 snaps in the past five years, while maintaining an impressive PFF overall grade of at least 75.0.
In the 2024 season, Ramsey showcased a new dimension to his game. His 47 pass-rush snaps more than doubled his previous career high, and he led all cornerbacks with 12 quarterback pressures. His ability to disrupt passing plays extended beyond his coverage skills; he also batted down four passes at the line of scrimmage. Only Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton, with two, was the other player at his position to achieve that level of disruption.
