Jimmy Garoppolo has opted to remain with the Los Angeles Rams, agreeing to a one-year deal, as reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. This decision ensures continuity in the Rams’ quarterback room, with Garoppolo continuing in his role as backup to Matthew Stafford.
Garoppolo, a 2014 second-round draft pick by the New England Patriots, transitioned to a starting role with the San Francisco 49ers via trade in 2017. He then spent the 2023 season with the Las Vegas Raiders before joining the Rams last year.
The timing of this agreement suggests a couple of key factors. Firstly, it appears Garoppolo did not find any viable opportunities to secure a starting position elsewhere. Secondly, the team likely communicated their intent to explore other backup quarterback options if Garoppolo declined their offer.
Therefore, Garoppolo will spend another season in Los Angeles. This decision also creates the potential for him to serve as a short-term starting quarterback if Matthew Stafford were to depart after the upcoming season, offering the team a degree of stability at the position.
Los Angeles Rams Re-Sign Jimmy Garoppolo

“We would love to bring him back,” head coach Sean McVay said of Garoppolo.
“I obviously have been very busy working through the Matthew situation. That’s the hope and anticipation. Now, you guys know that there might be some other interest and Jimmy’s earned the right to be able to have that type of interest.
“But yes, if you said, would I want Jimmy back here to be able to work in the quarterback room with [Quarterbacks Coach] Dave Ragone and Matthew and those guys? The answer is absolutely yes.”
