Los Angeles Rams Bring Back Another Fan Favorite Defender

Veteran linebacker Troy Reeder will be returning to the Los Angeles Rams for another season, as announced by the team on Thursday. This marks Reeder’s sixth season with the Rams out of his seven years in the NFL, with his lone season away being in 2022 when he played for the Los Angeles Chargers. Since 2022, the 30-year-old has played under one-year contracts, a trend that will continue with this latest agreement.

Reeder, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent, played a significant role early in his career with the Rams, starting eight of his 16 appearances as a rookie.

He continued to be a regular contributor on defense over the subsequent two seasons, culminating in a career-high 91 tackles in his final year before his brief stint with the Chargers. During his single season across town, Reeder’s role primarily shifted to special teams. This remained largely the case upon his return to the Rams for his first stint back.

However, Reeder’s role evolved again in 2024. The Delaware product started all six games in which he appeared and saw a significant increase in his defensive snap share, reaching a career-high of 94%.

Unfortunately, a hamstring injury cut his season short, likely impacting his market value in free agency. Reeder’s previous contract with the Rams was valued at $1.13 million, and given his injury history, his new deal is expected to be in a similar range.

The Rams, who had $17.7 million in salary cap space entering Thursday, still possess considerable flexibility to make further additions to their linebacker corps before the upcoming NFL Draft.

Reeder will join a group that includes returning players Omar Speights, Tony Fields, and Eli Neal, all on cost-effective deals, as well as free-agent signing Nathan Landman. Even with the potential addition of a rookie linebacker in the draft, Reeder’s experience and his increased role in 2024 position him to compete for a starting job during training camp.
