Nate Scheelhaase, the Los Angeles Rams’ passing game specialist, has decided to remain in Los Angeles despite strong interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars for their offensive coordinator position. This news was reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Scheelhaase’s return to the Rams is a significant development, particularly given his expected expanded role within the coaching staff, as noted by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Los Angeles Rams Retain Passing Game Specialist, Nate Scheelhaase

Scheelhaase’s rapid ascent through the NFL coaching ranks continued this offseason. After a successful tenure at Iowa State, culminating in his appointment as offensive coordinator, Scheelhaase joined the Los Angeles Rams last year as their passing game specialist. Despite facing adversity, including injuries to key receivers like Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, the Rams’ passing offense thrived under Scheelhaase’s guidance, finishing the 2024 season among the league’s elite.
This impressive performance attracted significant interest from other teams, most notably the Jacksonville Jaguars, who sought him to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy. However, Scheelhaase ultimately decided to remain with the Rams.

Furthermore, Scheelhaase’s connection to former Rams assistant Liam Coen, now the head coach in Jacksonville, made him a natural fit for the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator role. He was also in contention for the OC job with Coen’s former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coen’s familiarity with Scheelhaase’s coaching style and his potential to contribute to the development of Trevor Lawrence undoubtedly made him an attractive candidate for the position.
This news undoubtedly brings a sense of relief to Rams head coach Sean McVay. Following the departure of tight ends coach Nick Caley to the Houston Texans, the Rams faced the potential loss of another key member of their offensive staff in Dave Ragone as well as defensive assistant coach Aubrey Pleasant.
