Los Angeles Rams Reveal Veteran Starter Underwent Offseason Surgery

Rob Havenstein, a cornerstone of the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive line, is set to enter the final year of his current contract. Despite this, the Rams have publicly affirmed his return for the 2025 season, ensuring his presence as a crucial protector for quarterback Matthew Stafford. However, the veteran right tackle will be recovering from shoulder surgery during the offseason.

At the annual league meeting, Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed that Havenstein underwent a procedure to “clean up” his shoulders, a surgery expected to yield significant benefits for the 32-year-old. While the Rams plan to manage Havenstein’s workload during OTAs, they anticipate his full availability for training camp.

“We’ll be modified with him,” McVay explained. “He got some shoulders cleaned up. It was actually something that I think is really going to be beneficial to him. He feels great. He is working through the rehab process. We’ll probably be careful in regards to how we’re going to handle it through OTAs, just without having pads on. But it’s not going to inhibit his ability – for sure for training camp. We might have to modify him but haven’t really gone down that road with Reggie (Scott) yet.”

Havenstein’s shoulder injury occurred during practice before the Week 17 game against the Arizona Cardinals, forcing him to miss that contest. He also sat out the regular-season finale alongside other Rams starters but returned for the playoffs, starting both games against the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles.

As he approaches his age-33 season, Havenstein is prioritizing his health, aiming to avoid the multiple game absences that have marked his past two years. The team is optimistic that the recent surgery will contribute to his long-term health and performance.
