Los Angeles Rams Secure Stalwart Offensive Weapon With 2nd Round Draft Pick

The Los Angeles Rams traded back from the first round in large part due to an enticing 2026 first-round pick. In terms of what the trade did for this season depends heavily on what they do in the second round.

With that pick they decided to address tight end, specifically Terrance Ferguson from the Oregon Ducks.

The Rams were rumored to be interested in trading up for one of the top two tight end prospects, Colston Loveland or Tyler Warren. Ferguson is the fourth tight end taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, behind the aforementioned and Mason Taylor. Miami’s TE Elijah Arroyo remained on the board.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler ranked Ferguson as the 5th-best tight end and 75 best prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft Class, writing, “there isn’t much about his game that screams “exceptional,” but Ferguson is solid across the board and should continue to ascend as he adds consistency to his blocking and patterns. He has the foundational traits to carve out an NFL career similar to that of Jake Ferguson (no relation).”

Terrance Ferguson, a four-year starter at Oregon, demonstrated versatility as a tight end within offensive coordinator Will Stein’s spread scheme. His role expanded throughout his college career, culminating in a senior season where he was a dependable target. In 2024, he lined up in the slot for 42.0 percent of his snaps and in-line/wing for 40.5 percent, often serving as a blocker initially before releasing as a receiving option.

Ferguson, who also excelled as a high school basketball player, displays notable athleticism both as a route runner and after the catch. He also exhibits reliable ball skills; in 2024, 25.6 percent of his receptions resulted in gains of 20 yards or more. While he requires further technical refinement in his blocking (specifically, tighter hands and footwork), he demonstrates an ability to effectively stalemate defenders.
