The 2025 Los Angeles Rams are poised for a significant transformation. The team is facing crucial decisions regarding the futures of several key players, including potential departures for some of their long-standing contributors.
Wide receiver Cooper Kupp’s future with the team is already determined, as the Rams plan to explore trade options for the Super Bowl LVI MVP.
The future of quarterback Matthew Stafford also remains uncertain, with retirement speculation swirling around the veteran signal-caller.
The Rams will be forced to make difficult roster decisions as they navigate a bloated offensive budget with a growing list of team needs. A veteran leader and a significant contributor to the team’s 2021 Super Bowl championship victory is among those facing an uncertain future with the organization.
Is It Time For The Los Angeles Rams To Cut Tyler Higbee?

According to Lorenzo J. Reyna of Clutch Points: “‘Big Rig Higs’ may have emptied the tank one last time in L.A. The tight end Higbee not only played on the Rams’ last championship-winning team, he even suited up for their 2018 NFC championship roster. He and tackle Rob Havenstein are the only Rams players who played on both Sean McVay-led NFC champion teams. Both even arrived in L.A. before McVay took over the head coaching job. Higbee even agreed to a new contract extension during the 2023 season.”
Higbee’s statistical contribution has been on the decline since that fateful 2021 season and matters were not helped after tearing his MCL and ACL in last season’s Wild Card loss to the Detroit Lions. He spent much of 2024 recovering from the surgeries to repair those injuries.

Cutting the 31-year-old tight end would save LA $6.2 million against the salary cap. With a void year coming after this season, it could be the right time to make the cut, if Higbee starts sniffing around for a new deal.
The Rams were actively pursuing a trade-up in the 2024 draft to acquire a tight end, Brock Bowers — who had a historic season as a rookie for the Las Vegas Raiders. The 2025 draft is replete with tight-end talent; Travis Hunter, Tyler Warren, Colston Loveland, and Elijah Arroyo are all expected to go in the top 50 of the upcoming draft.
