Los Angeles Rams Finally Addressing Looming Crisis At Quarterback

Even after the Los Angeles Rams ‘renewed’ their vows with Matthew Stafford, the team is still faced with the biggest question in modern professional football. How will they find the next starting quarterback when Stafford inevitably leaves the team, which could be as soon as 2026?

Jourdan Rodrigue of the Athletic pulled back the curtain a bit on this topic when she posted to social media that;

Los Angeles Rams Finally Looking For The Next Great QB

“From Snead and McVay’s pressers this week one item has continued to stick out to me: they seem to want to get a young QB with starter potential in the room and learning from Matthew Stafford as soon as they can.”

The team has done little to address the position since bringing Stafford abroad in 2021. In head coach Sean McVay’s eight drafts — which have encompassed 76 picks — the team has selected just one quarterback, Stetson Bennett, who has yet to look like an NFL-caliber quarterback since joining the team in 2023.

the McVay era was the beneficiary of two fortuitous quarterback situations. Jared Goff was drafted as the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft and captained the ship from then till 2021, when the Rams stumbled upon a disgruntled quarterback, who was ready for a new start, in Cabo St. Lucas. That is to say, Stafford trades and first-overall picks don’t grow on trees — some luck was needed for both.

The Rams now find themselves in a situation where luck can’t be the strategy.

How the Rams go about finding this ‘young QB’ is yet to be told. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Rams select one in the upcoming NFL draft. But there are also trades to be made. The Indianapolis Colts seem to be willing to try other options at the position other than Anthony Richardson. Could the Steelers be interested in moving on from Justin Fields? Zach Wilson, Sam Darnold, and Daniel Jones are all free agents this year.

Plenty of options are available to the Rams. None may seem to be the sure thing, but the Rams now recognize the need to start scouring for their next franchise face.
