The Los Angeles Rams are navigating a pivotal offseason, aiming to build upon their recent playoff appearance. Following a divisional-round loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams have made significant roster changes, most notably the release of Cooper Kupp and the acquisition of Davante Adams.
However, the addition of Adams has sparked some debate among NFL executives. According to Mike Sando of The Athletic, some executives have expressed skepticism about Adams’ fit within the offensive scheme.
Skeptics Exist On Los Angeles Rams, Davante Adams Union

One executive noted, “Davante is a little better separator (than Kupp), but there has been a dropoff in his ability to get consistently open.”
Concerns have also been raised about Adams’ ability to adapt to Sean McVay’s system, which often involves receivers in condensed formations and requires them to contribute as blockers. Comparisons to Larry Fitzgerald’s later career, where he embraced a more physical role, have been made.
“Larry was willing to get rugged, block, do some dirty work over the middle,” another executive stated, questioning Adams’ willingness to fulfill similar responsibilities.
Despite Puka Nacua’s emergence as the primary receiver, the team’s decision to release Kupp was still surprising. The signing of Adams provides the team with a veteran presence and a proven playmaker, even if he has slightly declined from his peak performance with the Green Bay Packers.
Adams’ recent experience with Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets will now be followed by a partnership with Matthew Stafford, who demonstrated his continued ability to perform at a high level in the 2024-25 season.
