Puka Nacua Tempted To Sell Out 17 For Big Bucks

The Los Angeles Rams are facing a potential jersey number dilemma as they welcome Davante Adams to their receiving corps. Puka Nacua, who currently sports No. 17, has indicated he’s not readily willing to relinquish it, even for a substantial sum. During an appearance on the “St. Brown Podcast,” Nacua, in a lighthearted exchange with Amon-Ra St. Brown, playfully dismissed the idea of giving up his number for $2 million. He even joked about Adams’ lucrative Taco Bell endorsement, suggesting the veteran could easily afford a higher price.

While the conversation was clearly in jest, the situation could become a point of discussion between the two receivers, especially following the Rams’ recent acquisition of Adams. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Adams has signed a two-year, $46 million deal with the Rams, including $26 million in guarantees. This further adds to Adams’ already substantial career earnings, which Spotrac estimates to be over $129.5 million.

Throughout his career with the Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Jets, Adams has consistently worn No. 17. In fact, when the Jets acquired Adams during the 2024 season, rookie receiver Malachi Corley willingly switched from No. 17 to No. 14 to accommodate the veteran.

Nacua, having burst onto the scene with a Pro Bowl rookie season in 2023, accumulating 1,486 receiving yards, holds greater prominence than Corley. His jersey is also popular among Rams fans. However, $2 million is a significant amount for the 23-year-old Nacua, who is currently in the early stages of a four-year, $4.1 million contract.

Whether Nacua’s stance will soften with time, or if his attachment to the number is unwavering, remains to be seen. The situation adds an interesting layer to the Rams’ offseason narrative.
