Puka Nacua Trash-Talks 49ers’ Brock Purdy During Contract Discussions

Much like Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams were earlier this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers are embroiled in contract discussions with their starting quarterback, Brock Purdy. While it seems like he was just drafted yesterday, Mr. Irrelevant is already headed into the final year of his rookie contract.

Some projections, like Spotrac, have Purdy’s market value set at nearly $60 million. However, Rams star receiver Puka Nacua doesn’t think Purdy is worth it.

While the $60 million annual salary figure may be a bit high for Brock Purdy, speculation suggests he could ultimately sign for somewhere between $40 and $50 million.

Still, with quarterbacks annually signing for larger and larger amounts, until Purdy signs, how much he signs for is anyone’s guess.

Yet, Rams receiver Puka Nacua doesn’t think Purdy should be making anything over $50 million. Nacua believes the $40 million range is much more likely.

“I don’t think so,” Nacua said about Purdy being worthy of a $50 million-plus contract. “I think [mid-$40 million] range. I think so. He seems like a smart guy. They have a chance to still be in their window, and I think if he goes for [$50 million-plus], then the window closes.”

The 49ers have reached the playoffs in four of the past six seasons, so seeing their competitive window come to a close would be a significant development for the Rams. While the Rams have reached the postseason in six out of the past eight seasons, getting a chance to beat up on a team that isn’t ready to compete for a playoff spot could make life a lot easier.
