From Horse Racing To Hamachi: Davante Adams Details How Los Angeles Rams Secured The Elite WR

Sean McVay’s recruitment of wide receiver Davante Adams to the Los Angeles Rams this offseason was a testament to his proactive and dedicated approach. Adams, who committed to the Rams while traveling in Japan, humorously noted at his introductory press conference that McVay’s persistent communication made it seem as if he were on vacation alongside him.

“I thought he was out there too, just based off I was talking to him more than I was talking to my wife.” Adams said McVay initially connected and told him how much he admired his game years ago at Kentucky Derby.

Adams further revealed that McVay sent him two highlight reels of his plays, personally narrating the clips to highlight what he admired about Adams’s game. He emphasized that the Rams were “definitely the most eager organization to reach out,” making him feel particularly valued. Adams has signed a two-year, $46 million deal with $26 million guaranteed, and he will now work closely with McVay, known for his constant engagement with players regarding football strategy.

McVay’s enthusiastic approach is not unique to Adams. Quarterback Matthew Stafford, on the “New Heights” podcast, recounted his initial experiences with McVay. Stafford recalled that within weeks of his arrival in Los Angeles, McVay organized a trip to Santa Barbara with Stafford and their wives, Veronica and Kelly, for a wine outing. However, even before reaching their destination, McVay began discussing football with Stafford, pulling out paper to illustrate his points. The Stafford deal was also ultimately hatched while McVay and Stafford met in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
