Rams Coach Sean McVay Gives Opinion On Infamous ‘Tush Push’

All 32 NFL teams are currently down in Florida for the annual league owners’ meetings, and that includes the Los Angeles Rams and head coach Sean McVay.

A lot of things happen at these meetings, but one of the main things is discussions of the rules and any new rule proposals. The hot topic around the league right now is the infamous ‘Tush Push’ or, as it became known, the “Brotherly Shove.”

Many teams and fans want the play outlawed, as one team, the Philadelphia Eagles, have become dominant and almost unstoppable at it.

There have been countless players, coaches, and execs who have spoken about the play, and now Rams coach Sean McVay has thrown his hat into the ring.

Rams head coach Sean McVay was just on a show with Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk and was asked about his thoughts on the play and if he thinks it should be outlawed.

“I don’t believe in taking something out because they do it better than anybody else, and I told both John and Howie (asst. GM and GM of Eagles) that when we were talking yesterday,” McVay said. “What I don’t like is the optics of that play, looks like a rugby scrum, and there are some health and safety things, which those things exist in short yardage and goal line situations as well. So, I’m kind of conflicted cause you don’t want to be a hater…but I also wish we didn’t let the play in in the first place in regards to just the optics of what it looks like, doesn’t look like football to me.”

While McVay doesn’t give a clear answer on if he thinks the play should be officially banned, it does sound like he leans that way, thanks to the optics and design.

This is the argument of many, while those in favor of the scrum will point to what McVay said at the beginning of his answer, that people want it banned simply because the Eagles have created something that is unstoppable.

A vote could come as early as tomorrow (Tuesday) on whether or not the play will be outlawed. It will need 24 votes to be removed, a tall order and somewhat unlikely outcome.
