Why Does Torry Holt Keep Missing Out On The Hall Of Fame?

The Hall Of Fame Class of 2025 was just announced last night, and somehow, yet again, Rams legend Torry Holt was left out.

I think most believe that he will eventually get in the Hall, after all, Sterling Sharpe, who was just inducted last night, had been waiting since he retired back in 1994.

But why is it taking so long when he so clearly deserves to be in?

His resume speaks for itself.

Torry Holt Should Be In The Hall Of Fame

  • Super Bowl Champion
  • 2x All-Pro
  • 7x Pro Bowler
  • 2x NFL Receiving Yards Leader
  • NFL Receptions Leader In 2003
  • NFL 2000s All-Decade Team
  • 13,382 Receiving Yards (17th All Time)
  • 74 Touchdowns (43rd All Time)
  • 920 Receptions (26th All Time)

Between 2000-2009 Torry Holt led all receivers in receptions (868) and receiving yards (12,594). He was ahead of Hall of Famers Tony Gonzalez, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, and Marvin Harrison.

That alone should be enough to get him in the hallowed hall.

When looking at what constitutes a Hall of Fame career, to me, you have to look at how you compare to your immediate peers. I get that the history of the league comes into play, as it should, but every era brings a different set of players and a different style of play.

Torry Holt, along with Isaac Bruce and Kurt Warner (both in the Hall of Fame), redefined the passing game in the NFL with the Greatest Show on Turf. He was the number one receiver in two statistical categories during his era.

Torry Holt will eventually get into the Hall, I have no doubt about it, but he should already be in. I guess, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait.

So we wait. And we will cheer loudly when the Bust of Torry Holt is finally enshrined in Canton.
