Insider Has Los Angeles Rams Shockingly Select Kyren Williams Replacement In First Round Of NFL Draft

We are just under an hour from the start of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Rams will have to wait a few hours for their selection at pick 26, unless they decide to trade up.

NFL Insider Daniel Jeremiah released his final mock draft, and he has the Rams making a very interesting selection.

Running Back is one of the positions that not many have pegged the Rams to target in the first round, so this would be a bit surprising.

“On the surface, this might be puzzling, given the presence of Kyren Williams,” writes Jeremiah. But Williams is in the final year of his contract and had only one carry of 30-plus yards last season. In comparison, Saquon Barkley had 13 such runs, including the playoffs. Hampton provides a more explosive element to the Rams’ run game and can eventually take over as RB1.”

While I do believe that the Rams will take a running back in this year’s draft, selecting one in the first round would be interesting. They have adapted the strategy of taking an RB every year, which has led them to not giving any RB a second contract since Todd Gurley.

Kyren Williams is in the last year of his contract, but they did draft Blake Corum in the 3rd round last year.

Hampton is a dynamic runner with true breakaway speed. He would certainly add an element to the offense that truly hasn’t been there since Gurley was in Horns.

Les Sead and Sean McVay hoped that they would be able to replicate past game-breaking speed when they drafted Darrell Henderson out of Memphis. Unfortunately, he suffered some injuries and could never truly find a meaningful role.

They took Cam Akers in the 2nd round after that, and he flashed speed and talent, but the Los Angeles Rams ultimately traded him before his rookie deal was up.

Now Kyren Williams has been their workhorse the past two seasons, but as Jeremiah alludes to, he does not have that breakaway speed and has been relegated to chewing up the field in small increments.

While it would shock a lot of people, Omarion Hampton would actually be a really solid selection for the Los Angeles Rams.
