The Los Angeles Rams are once again linked to Michigan tight end Colston Loveland, this time in Pro Football Focus’s latest mock draft by John Kosko. In this scenario, unlike some others, the Rams secure Loveland with the 26th overall pick.
Los Angeles Rams Draft TE Colston Loveland

“After releasing Cooper Kupp, the Rams need a reliable weapon to play in-line and as a big slot. Loveland is the perfect fit for that role, as his length would give quarterback Matthew Stafford a big target over the middle of the field,” Kosko writes. “While he lacks consistent power as a run blocker, Loveland, if utilized properly, can thrive as a weapon in the passing game.”
The Rams, it’s suggested, would prioritize Loveland even over a cornerback, recognizing his potential as a valuable offensive asset, particularly given Matthew Stafford’s existing receiving options. While Loveland’s blocking skills may need development, the return of Tyler Higbee provides him with time to grow in that aspect.
Should the Rams draft Loveland, they are expected to increase their use of play-action passes, leveraging Loveland’s ability to create separation, especially against linebackers. However, Loveland’s availability at the 26th pick is a significant concern.
That may ultimately prove not to be a deterrent for the Rams. They showed significant eagerness to trade up for Brock Bowers by as much as 10 spots in last year’s draft. If that is the case, it opens the door for Loveland and Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. But they will face significant competition for both.
The Denver Broncos, despite signing Evan Engram, could still be interested, especially if Ashton Jeanty is selected before their pick. The Chargers, picking at 22, also have a need for a tight end, and Justin Herbert could benefit from another reliable target. Additionally, Loveland’s former head coach at Michigan, Jim Harbaugh, is now the Chargers’ head coach, potentially increasing their interest.
