Los Angeles Rams Set High Asking Price In Matthew Stafford Trade

Since the Los Angeles Rams’ season ended in mid-January, there’s already been a slew of trade rumors involving the team.

Cooper Kupp is on the trade block, and a resolution could be reached soon. Yet, the former All-Pro receiver isn’t the only Rams player generating trade interest.

Even though he hasn’t expressed any interest in switching teams again, there have been rumors of Matthew Stafford getting traded as opposed to renegotiating his contract for the second offseason in a row. The latest Rams rumors provide a bit of insight into what the Rams may demand in any Stafford trade discussions.

The Los Angeles Rams don’t have a quarterback in place who can take over for Matthew Stafford, so it’s understandable that they’d be hesitant to move on from their starter. Yet, he has just two years left on his contract, and he’s likely looking for some sort of financial commitment from the Rams.

However, if those talks break down, the Rams could prefer to turn around and trade Stafford while finding a different starting QB for 2025. Though, how much would the Rams want for Stafford?

According to Fox Sports’ NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Rams are believed to be seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Stafford.

“Several teams, per league sources, have called L.A. about Stafford and the belief is a first-round pick would probably be the asking price should the Rams choose to make a deal. Again, the Rams want him back (he also carries a $49.3 million cap hit if released) and there’s been nothing to this point that would suggest Stafford doesn’t want to play for them, but this is undoubtedly one of the biggest storylines heading into free agency next month. Before then, the Rams and Stafford’s agent are planning to meet in Indianapolis to see if they can find common ground.”

It’s hard to see any team being willing to fork over a first-round pick for a quarterback who just turned 37. Yet, perhaps the Rams are setting an extremely high asking price on purpose, knowing that they really don’t want to trade their starting quarterback who just got them a playoff win a month ago.
