Los Angeles Rams Roster Bubble: Former Jim Thorpe Award Winner At Risk of Being Cut

After two preseason games, the Los Angeles Rams roster is starting to take shape. NFL teams need to make hard decisions to get down to 53 players from 90 by August 27th.

That means several players are vying for just a few available spots. These are the Rams that may barely miss being rostered.

Jake Hummel continues to play some of the best ball of his career in this preseason. Unfortunately for him, rookie undrafted free agent, Omar Speights keeps adding to his highlight reel.

The Rams thinking around this battle will be revealed in the final preseason game. They don’t generally give much playing time to the players they want on the 53-man roster in the 3rd game.

Tre’ Tomlinson, CB

Despite being in the second year of his rookie contract, Tre’Vius Tomlinson could be on the chopping block after picking up another costly penalty against the Chargers.

The Rams have added several free agents at cornerback, so those added to the developing players, Tomlinson may find himself the odd man out.

Several young players have simply played better than him, like Tanner Ingle and Josh Wallace.

Zach VanValkenburg, Edge

One week ago, Zach VanValkenburg posted an eye-popping six quarterback pressures, yet he still makes this list, typifying how much depth the Rams roster has at edge rusher.

The Rams will likely keep five or six edge rushers. The top three spots are solidified with Jared Verse, Byron Young, and Michael Hoecht. Nick Hampton and Ochaun Matthis have had better performances thus far. 2024 rookie fifth-rounder, Brennan Jackson has been praised by the coaching staff despite missing the preseason due to injury.

AJ Arcuri, OL

Similar to VanValkenburg, A.J. Arcuri may find himself on the outside looking in because of an influx of young players. The Rams roster will likely end up with 10 offensive linemen. Several players have put a lot of good snaps on tape, including Arcuri. But the the end of next Tuesday, the Rams roster has to be filled with the team’s best options

With Beaux Limmer, Justin Dedich, Warren McClendon, and Zach Thomas taking giant leaps forward, Arcuri has an uphill climb to make the Rams roster.
