Insider Names Los Angeles Rams as Ideal Landing Spot for Young QB Trade

The Los Angeles Rams seemed to be in the market for a young quarterback early this offseason when Matthew Stafford was being floated in trade talks. Even with Stafford back in the fold, the Rams could make a move for his successor this year.

Los Angeles has already seemed to have thrown in the towel on Stetson Bennett becoming a long-term starter. Selected with the 128th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the 27-year-old quarterback hasn’t played a single snap in two years.

While Jimmy Garoppolo is re-signed, he is only in Los Angeles to serve as a fill-in starter if Stafford gets hurt. The Rams coaching staff wants some form of a long-term solution at the quarterback position and one option could become available ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Yahoo Sports‘ senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson said on Friday’s episode of the Inside Coverage podcast that if the Tennessee Titans select Ward with the first overall pick, Will Levis could be traded. If he’s made available, Robinson believes the Rams are a natural fit.

“Send him to the Rams. Let me see what Sean McVay can do with him as a backup, and Matthew Stafford starting in front of him…I’ve thought about that before. I think being behind a Matthew Stafford and seeing how he prepares. Being with a Sean McVay, basically crawl inside his head and re-program all those buttons, would not necessarily be the worst thing.”

Los Angeles could be the ideal landing spot for Levis. Even if Stafford suffered a major injury, Garoppolo would step in as the Rams’ starting quarterback. In a third-string role, Levis could focus more on film study and work with the Rams coaching staff to iron out his game.

If all goes well, Levis could take over as Stafford’s backup in 2026. Then, if he continues to progress and shows signs of improvement in the preseason, the Rams could either extend him or give him a one-year deal to prove himself as the starter in 2027. Regardless of the outcome, it would be a low-risk, high-reward move for the Rams organization.
