While fans may not love it, the Los Angeles Rams drafting a Quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft is becoming more and more likely.
Just this morning, it was reported that Matthew Stafford still hasn’t signed his amended contract, and regardless, it will only be a one-year deal. Even if Stafford ends up re-signing another one-year deal next season, he is not going to play forever, and the Rams would be wise to get their quarterback of the future now and let him grow into the starting role.
One player that has been shooting up draft boards but would not require the use of a first-round pick is Louisville QB Tyler Shough.
Shough was recently on ESPN for an interview and mentioned that he models his game after Matthew Stafford, making his style of play the perfect transition for the Rams.

Louisville QB Tyler Shough Models Game After Rams QB Matthew Stafford

During the interview, the host of NFL Live, Laura Rutledge, asks Shough which NFL quarterback he compares his game to.
“That’s pretty unique cause I’ve always said in these meetings, for me, I grew up watching [Matthew] Stafford and the stuff that he does with his arm angles. He’s a tough son of a gun, he’s playing through a lot of stuff and has been around. He’s playing really well into his late 30s. I’ve always really liked him…, says Shough.”

Shough also mentions Josh Allen as he tries to play with a similar physically and “ripping the ball down the field.”
Shough is 25 years old, so he is one of the older prospects entering the Draft. He has dealt with some injuries but has a good amount of playing experience. He began his career at Oregon before transferring to Texas Tech and then finishing his collegiate career at Louisville last season.
He has played in five bowl games (Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Texas Bowl, Independence Bowl, and Sun Bowl) and was the Texas Bowl MVP in 2022.
Last season, he led the Cardinals to an 8-4 record and finished the year with 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.
Scouts raved about Shough at the Senior Bowl, which began his draft stock ascent.
Currently, the Rams do not hold a 2nd round pick. If he is still available in the 3rd round, he would be tremendous value there, but he may not last that long. If the Rams do indeed trade back from pick 26, he could be a viable choice with the 2nd rounder they inevitably garner.
