The quarterback carousel may spin rapidly in the 2025 offseason, with several prominent signal-callers potentially finding new homes. Among them are Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers, who will be parting ways with the New York Jets as soon as possible.
Rodgers, now 41, has expressed his desire to play one final season in the NFL before retiring. Following his departure from New York, the question of his next destination looms large. On his recent podcast, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter explored potential landing spots for Rodgers, raising the possibility of the Los Angeles Rams as a potential suitor for his 21st and final season.
Schefter Reveals Aaron Rodgers’ Interest in Los Angeles Rams

…(Stafford) is due $35 million this year, none of it is guaranteed. It’s up to those two sides to figure out a number that the Rams can live with, that Stafford is more comfortable with, that would enable him to continue and finish his NFL career with the Rams. … If the Rams couldn’t get a deal done with Stafford, if they decide to trade him––a lot of “if’s” involved––then Aaron Rodgers, in my mind, would be thrilled with the idea of going to Los Angeles. And the Rams could probably get him at a lower cost than it would be for Matthew Stafford,” Schefter said Tuesday.

The Rams face a potentially transformative offseason, marked by significant changes to their roster. Earlier this month, Cooper Kupp, the Super Bowl LVI MVP, revealed that the team is exploring trade options for him. Kupp and Matthew Stafford, acquired by the Rams from the Detroit Lions in 2021, have been instrumental to the team’s success in recent years, forming the core of an offense that has reached the playoffs three times in the past four seasons.
While Kupp’s departure appears imminent, Stafford’s future with the Rams remains more ambiguous. Although his return for the 2025 season is more probable, his contract situation will undoubtedly play a crucial role in determining his fate. As reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Rams have a “strong interest” in retaining Stafford, even though his current contract is considered “untenable.”
This context underscores the significance of Schefter’s report. Stafford is aware of the team’s desire to renegotiate his contract to a more manageable figure. This understanding could be the deciding factor in his decision to remain in Los Angeles. If Stafford and the Rams can reach a mutually agreeable contract, the team, bolstered by his proven track record, will once again be a formidable playoff contender.
