Top Analyst Tells Las Vegas Raiders Why They Need Ashton Jeanty At No. 6

The Las Vegas Raiders, under the guidance of new head coach Pete Carroll, are poised for potential improvement in the upcoming season. Their offseason has already seen significant moves, most notably the acquisition of quarterback Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks. This momentum could continue into the 2025 NFL Draft, offering the Raiders an opportunity to further solidify their roster.

Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum, in his recent 2025 mock draft, simulated the role of each team’s general manager, providing insights into potential draft strategies. His analysis aligns with other draft experts who suggest the Raiders could target Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty in the first round.

“The recent acquisition of Geno Smith means taking a quarterback is unlikely, especially with holes in the offense around Smith,” Tannenbaum explained. “The Raiders could use another receiver, some offensive line reinforcements and a dynamic running back.”

Tannenbaum drew a comparison between Jeanty and Marshawn Lynch, highlighting Carroll’s preference for a strong running game. “Landing Jeanty would set the tempo for Las Vegas under Pete Carroll,” he concluded. “Jeanty doesn’t have the physicality of Marshawn Lynch (who starred under Carroll in Seattle), but he has the skills to be more impactful as an overall NFL player.”

Jeanty’s 2024 season at Boise State was exceptional, marked by 2,601 total yards and an impressive 1,733 yards after contact. His addition could provide an immediate boost to a Raiders offense that struggled mightily in 2024, finishing last in the league with just 1,357 rushing yards.
