The Las Vegas Raiders have already been very active heading into the NFL opening of free agency — answering several big questions. One remaining question is how the secondary will shape up ahead of the NFL draft.
The Raiders have emerged as a potential suitor for Byron Murphy as a top priority for the team, as reported by Tashan Reed of The Athletic. While Murphy’s asking price is reportedly high, potentially reaching $20 million per year, the Vikings are also exploring the possibility of re-signing him.
Las Vegas Raiders Considering Several Options At DB

Murphy, after a productive stint with the Minnesota Vikings, has positioned himself for a significant second contract. Having entered the 2023 market and ultimately settling for a two-year deal, the former Cardinals starter has now elevated his value. As one of several cornerbacks seeking a third contract, Murphy’s relatively young age of 27 gives him a distinct advantage.
Meanwhile, the Raiders are also focused on retaining safety Tre’von Moehrig. However, with Moehrig expected to attract considerable interest in the free agent market, the team may need to consider alternative options.
Reed has identified Moehrig as the most challenging of the Raiders’ in-house free agents to retain, and suggests Murphy’s Vikings teammate, Camryn Bynum, as a player to watch as a potential addition. The Raiders, seemingly impressed with the Vikings’ secondary, are facing the possibility of both starting safeties, Moehrig and Marcus Epps, entering free agency. Moehrig was ranked 24th on a list of top 50 free agents, with Bynum ranked 36th. Bynum, like Murphy, is entering his age-27 season and played a vital role in Minnesota’s top-five defense.
