Las Vegas Raiders Express Interest In Dual Threat QB, Perfect Fit For New Offense

According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe is considered a “perfect fit” for the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive system under coordinator Chip Kelly.

Bonsignore reports that the Raiders “remain intrigued” by Milroe, with “plenty of people in the NFL believe his flaws are fixable.” While it’s acknowledged that Milroe may require developmental time before starting, there’s a prevailing belief in his long-term potential. “It may take a year or so,” a league executive told Bonsignore, “But the potential is there.”

Jalen Milroe Perfect Fit For Chip Kelly, Las Vegas Raiders

On February 2nd, the Las Vegas Raiders welcomed Chip Kelly to their coaching staff as offensive coordinator, joining the team under newly appointed head coach Pete Carroll. Kelly brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers, as well as holding the same position at UCLA from 2018 to 2023.

Most recently, he served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Ohio State during their 2024 national championship run.

Jalen Milroe’s 2024 season with the Crimson Tide saw a slight regression in his passing statistics. His completion percentage dipped to 64.3%, and his touchdown passes decreased to 16, down from 65.8% and 23 touchdowns in 2023.

However, Milroe continued to showcase his dynamic running ability. He rushed for 726 yards in 13 appearances, and his 20 rushing touchdowns were the second-highest among quarterbacks nationwide.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler ranked Milroe as the 61st prospect in his top 100 Draft guide. “There might not be a prospect whose ranking will fluctuate more during the draft process than Milroe’s does,” Brugler writes “As an athlete and person, he belongs in the first round. But can he develop the passing consistency needed to grow into an NFL starter? Milroe will be worth the chance at some point on Day Two, but where is that sweet spot?”

The Las Vegas Raiders, holding the No. 6 overall pick in the upcoming draft, have expressed notable interest in Jalen Milroe. As reported by Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed of The Athletic on Friday, the team “came away particularly impressed with Milroe,” alongside Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, after reviewing their film. However, Tafur and Reed also indicated that the No. 6 pick would be “too rich of a slot” to select either of these quarterbacks. While the Raiders may not utilize their top pick to acquire Milroe, they are reportedly intrigued by his potential compatibility with Chip Kelly’s offensive scheme.
