The Las Vegas Raiders addressed their biggest offseason need by trading for quarterback Geno Smith. But at 34 years old Smith isn’t a long-term option, meaning they will need to start the search for his replacement sooner than later.
The New England Patriots’ quarterback situation, on the other hand, has undergone a dramatic transformation. Once lacking long-term prospects, they now possess two intriguing talents acquired in a single draft. Following the selection of Drake Maye as their potential starting quarterback with the third overall pick, the Patriots also added Joe Milton III in the sixth round. Milton, a physically imposing and athletic quarterback from Tennessee, has demonstrated glimpses of his considerable potential in limited preseason action and his lone regular-season appearance.
These flashes have validated the excitement surrounding his potential, despite his sixth-round draft status. However, with the Patriots’ recent signing of quarterback Joshua Dobbs, speculation has arisen regarding Milton’s future with the team. It appears increasingly likely that the Patriots may explore trading the young backup quarterback, aiming to capitalize on his perceived value.
NFL Trade Rumors: Las Vegas Raiders Named Top Trade Destination For Joe Milton

It is for these reasons that Seth Quinn at Newsweek named the Raiders as the top trade destination for Milton.
“While the Raiders did just trade for Geno Smith, he is 34 years old and should only serve as a temporary starting option. The Raiders could still use a young quarterback to earn some playing time down the line when the team inevitably moves on from Smith. Combine that with the Tom Brady-Patriots relationship, and a trade between the two sides makes a lot of sense.”
While it would be a long shot, finding the next starting quarterback is no easy task. The Raiders should have a well-formed idea about who Aidan O’Connell is as a starting quarterback, so taking a flyer on an untested yet intriguing prospect would be with spending a day three pick on.
